PRO-AGING AT PURE SWEAT STUDIOS

There is an invigorated focus now on not just longevity, but the quality of our well-being as we age.

We are evolving from an anti-aging mindset to a Pro-Aging way of being, recognizing the importance of our health-span within our lifespan.

You can’t stop the clock when it comes to your age, but you can slow down the rate at which your biology ages across cellular health, collagen and inflammation.

Read on to understand the hidden culprits behind accelerated aging, including zombie cells and inflammaging, and how infrared sauna therapy can slow down aging at a cellular level.

Biological Age vs Chronological Age

We have two different ages:

Our chronological age is the literal number of years we’ve been alive. There’s no going back on this one.

Our biological age refers to how old our physical cells are. We have some control here!

What Happens to Our Cells as We Age

Cellular health is one of the key markers in biological health.

Our cells are constantly communicating and dividing. It’s how we grow from a single fertilized egg to a newborn baby with specialized organs and approximately 26 billion cells in all.

As we advance in later stages of chronological age, our cells also biologically age by not communicating, dividing, and eliminating damaged cells, which contributes to functional decline, chronic disease, and ultimately mortality.

One very pernicious form of degenerative cells that form is what scientists call zombie cells, also known as senescent cells, which refer to damaged cells that refuse to die. Zombie cells accumulate waste products and release inflammatory molecules that damage nearby tissues and cells, turning them into zombies, too. This cell destruction process contributes to various age-related diseases and conditions.

A younger person’s immune system can clear zombie cells; but as people age, this ability diminishes. As zombie cells accumulate, the damage and inflammation become greater and greater. Eventually, the immune system has a hard time keeping up, leading to chronic conditions or disease.

Toxicity in Cells

There are probably 700 toxins in your body right now that aren’t supposed to be there. Toxins become trapped in our cells, particularly in fat cells where they tend to accumulate, degenerate our cellular health, and cause inflammation.  If left untreated, that buildup of inflammation can turn chronic. This is when larger health problems may occur, such as chronic disease, joint pain, mood swings and more.

Inflammaging

A big part of how fast or slow you age depends on how much inflammation is in your body. It’s known as inflammaging, chronic inflammation that speeds up the aging process.

It’s estimated that 15% of cancers have a link to chronic infection and inflammation.

As you age, macrophages (white blood cells that make up the immune system) lose the ability to take up and use calcium. This prevents the cells from being able to do their job, which is to eliminate dead cells and protect the body against foreign invaders.

If an invader in the body is found, macrophages would call for back up from other immune cells. But if macrophages aren’t functioning properly, the invader reigns by messing up cell signaling in the immune system. This leads to inflammaging.

Collagen Reduction + Aging Skin

Collagen is a protein that provides structure to your body's connective tissues, including your skin, muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments. It's the most abundant protein in your body, making up about 30% of your total protein.

As people age, their bodies produce less collagen and the collagen they have breaks down faster. This can lead to wrinkles, sagging skin, and other signs of aging. Collagen production naturally begins to decline around our mid-twenties at a rate of 1.5% per year, meaning by the time you are 60 years old, you will have lost around 80% of your natural collagen.

How Infrared Sauna Combats Biological Aging

Pure Sweat Studios’ infrared saunas by Sunlighten provide the full spectrum of far, mid and near infrared wavelengths that provide targeted heath therapy on a cellular level.

Detoxifies on a Cellular Level

Far infrared (FIR) wavelengths detoxify the body on a cellular level by reaching deepest into the body, where toxins are stored, breaking them apart so they can be released through sweat. By heating the body directly on a cellular level, FIR raises core body temperature and stimulates the sweat glands, resulting in a deep, detoxifying sweat 7 to 10 times greater than a conventional sauna.

Reduces Inflammation

To slow down the aging process, it’s critical to reduce inflammation.

Research has found that infrared heat prevents inflammation of the blood vessels by inducing a gene known as heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1). This gene sets off an anti-inflammatory effect within the body, helping to regulate inflammation. This process remains steady with regular exposure to infrared heat. When blood vessels are healthy, they maintain optimal function – which includes delivering oxygen and nutrients to organs and tissues throughout the body and being able to successfully remove tissue waste from the blood.

The result of this process is good circulation – a key component to combatting acute inflammation.

Protects Cells + Combats Zombie Cells

Infrared sauna promotes healthy aging by turning on genes that repair cellular damage and lower inflammation.

Mutated cells don't tolerate heat well, which will in turn hasten their death. Infrared sauna therapy combats zombie cells by triggering heat shock proteins that help repair damaged cells and eliminate cellular debris.

Infrared light also activates Langerhans cells – tissue-resistant macrophages across the epidermis that protect cells from inflammaging. These macrophages are able to migrate to a draining lymph node to eliminate an infection, thereby regulating the inflammatory response.

Inside the mitochondria of every cell are receptors which respond to near infrared wavelengths. The near light triggers an increase in cell metabolism, protein synthesis (including collagen), and antioxidant activity, protecting damage to cell structure.

Promotes Collagen + Skin Health

The near infrared wavelength goes past the epidermis (the top layer of skin) and permeate into the dermis, the thick, middle layer of your skin, promoting cell regeneration, reduced inflammation, and collagen production.

When NIR is applied to the skin, fibroblast cells absorb the light activity, stimulating production of collagen and elastin. Over time, those collagen boosts create thicker, younger looking skin, decrease lines, fade scars, and promote skin renewal, cell health and tissue growth. The result is healthy, supple and glowing skin!
